Adenoviruses are the same nasty bugs that cause the common cold. We all have these viruses in various forms in our body all the time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That last bit is a critical distinction.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Remember that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana has been doing some really ground-breaking research on AD-36. AD-36 affects stem cells... more specifically fat cells, both pre-formed and post-formed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This means AD-36 can make MORE fat cells if contracted as an infant and make your fat cells larger if contracted as an adult.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Or so the theory goes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To quote the study:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Earlier researchers have concluded that Ad-36 may be contributors to obesity by super-charging fat cells to grow and store more fat. Until now, though, those researchers thought the viruses targeted pre-fat cells (called pre-adipocytes), causing them to convert in higher numbers to fat cells and causing those fat cells to be larger. Those studies were in mice. One that I saw become a reality a few years ago?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To gain muscle AND burn bodyfat all at the same time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's like a pipe-dream that somehow worked its way through the pipes and into my gym.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is not easy, granted, but you can do it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Almost anyone can do it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You just have to train and eat in a very specific way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Listen:  You do NOT want to just "burn bodyfat" or god-forbid "lose-weight"... that will not give you the body you want.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You absolutely MUST shape your muscles, tighten and tone, and burn bodyfat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And you can do it at the same time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Most pros disagree with me. They think it is metabolically impossible to gain muscle while in a state of low-calorie dieting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They are wrong.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here's an article I wrote on this topic. It all started when I told Tom how I was eating and training for my last peak. A peak is where you lower your bodyfat and try to maintain as much muscle mass as possible.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"There's just no way I could ever get in shape eating and training like that," says Tom. "Sure you could man...what are you, a mutant?" Tom fires back, then me, then Tom....and so it goes. (I really didn't call Tom a mutant. That was creative liberty.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So why are so many fitness pros like Tom freaked out about my training and nutrition plan? Simple: I claim it burns fat while building muscle at the same time. Every time I read an article by some doctor or expert claiming it's "biologically impossible" to gain lean muscle mass on a hypocaloric diet (a diet low in calories) I just laugh.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I do more than make claims--I have proved this to be true many times. I've had my bodyfat hydrostatically measured during several peaks. In all but one I showed an increase of muscle mass and a decrease of bodyfat during a 12-16 week period. The one time I didn't show an increase in muscle mass when was I was training the most in the gym. It is really effective at building up your fitness levels.  I use a heart rate monitor for this, and I do take my own rate outside the recommended range for my age group, but I find that my fitness levels increase rapidly using this method.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I also find that it overcomes the boredom that can be a problem with cardio. Have you fallen prey to all the gimmicks, fad diets and shameless infomercials promising you that elusive flat stomach that you desire?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well fret no more, I'm going to let you in on the two ‘secrets' that will help you shed unwanted fat and reveal your toned, flat stomach once and for all.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first secret for a flat stomach is eating supportively. While this doesn't seem like a secret at all, most women get this wrong in spite of their best – but misguided – efforts. Women have fallen prey to low-fat, low-carb, Hollywood, grapefruit, South Beach and every other over hyped diet that marketers can dream up, all in hopes of shedding those unwanted pounds. But eating supportively is isn't about dieting or deprivation; it's about moderation and balance. While cutting carbs or fats out of your nutrition plan might give you a temporary loss of a couple of pounds, it's typically followed by a drop in metabolism and a weight gain of more than you lost in the first place once you go back to your old eating habits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So what is eating supportively? But spot reduction is a myth. Think about it – have you ever met someone with a flat stomach and fat arms? Didn't think so. If spot reduction was possible then undoubtedly one of these happy customers would have toned and tightened their stomach, yet kept their flabby arms.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The other myth that has led women astray is the belief that cardio is the best solution for fat loss. Treadmill manufacturers have sold the virtues of the ‘fat burning zone' and led us to believe that we could plod along on a treadmill watching Oprah and before long a flat stomach would be ours. These two myths have diverted us from the path of what really does work – resistance training. Resistance training is a flat stomach's best friend because not only does an effective resistance training session burn plenty of calories while you're doing it, but it keeps you're metabolism revved long after you're done. One recent study showed that you're metabolism would stay elevated for over 36 hours after a resistance training session.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Try to get that out of an aerobics class.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And there's another benefit of resistance training when it comes to getting a flat stomach. The lean muscle that you gain will raise you're resting metabolic rate and help you burn more fat all day long, each and every day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There you have it, two ‘secrets' that are guaranteed to boost your metabolism and give you that flat stomach you've been longing for. So ditch the diet books and the aerobics classes and start eating supportively and resistance training. Now isn't that really sweet - being able to burn fat the "lazy" way? e) It doesn't exhaust you: If you have ever tried to walk along a steep mountain or even a small hill, you would know how exhaustive it can be. Similarly, if you run along a steep surface, you would become fatigued very soon. In contrast, if you walk up and down a hill, you wouldn't feel tired. Why? While your body is fatigued at the time you are walking along the steep surface, it starts recovering from the exhaustion as you climb downwards. That is interval training for you. Quite similarly, running along a flat surface would be less tiring for you than running across a steep surface, even though you would burn almost the same amount of calories either way. Therefore, be sure to add interval training to your current workout routine. If you are a fan of aerobics, you could make your case better by adding sprints and jumps to your aerobic exercises. If treadmill workout is what you like to do, you can do it by upping the incline of the treadmill a notch higher at regular intervals.
